We are looking for an ABVP Resident to join our team! The ideal candidate for this position will have completed a one-year equine internship, but not necessary if they have previously been in equine practice, and graduated from an AVMA accredited veterinary school (for additional requirements, please visit AVMA ECFVG). The ABVP Residency at Steinbeck Peninsula Equine Clinics offers competitive pay, benefits, and relocation reimbursement.
The ABVP Residency is a 2-year training program that allows a veterinarian to acquire advanced knowledge and skills in a species-specific practice under the direct supervision of an ABVP Diplomate and/or other Diplomates, specialists, and mentors. The objective is to promote proficiency in the science and art of veterinary medicine, surgery, and related disciplines, and to provide opportunities to pursue careers in clinical and specialty practice, teaching, research, and/or public service. A residency can also be valuable for current practitioners who desire to increase their knowledge and clinical skills. Our Residency Program includes, but not limited to:
Ambulatory and in-hospital referral practice, focusing on practicing a high level of veterinary medicine, mastering technical skills, and developing a comprehensive understanding of case management.
Training and clinical experience in the following disciplines: Internal Medicine, Surgery, Anesthesiology, Diagnostic imaging (radiology, ultrasonography, and advanced imaging i.e. CT, nuclear scintigraphy), Pathology (clinical, gross, histo-), Preventative medicine, Clinical nutrition, Pharmacology, Theriogenology, Sports Medicine, and Lameness Diagnosis
Training will also include exposure to local specialists in ophthalmology and cardiology. Additional training available through external rotations and continuing education lectures.
Four weeks off per year for research.
Two weeks off per year for external rotations.
Resident schedule cycles through surgery, medicine, and ambulatory rotations.
Shared after-hours emergency coverage.

Steinbeck Peninsula Equine Clinics hospital locations are situated on the central coast of California; one near the San Francisco Bay and the other just miles from the Monterey Bay. Both locations provide around-the-clock care and monitoring in our ICU and hospital stalls, 24-hour emergency service (ambulatory and in-clinic), a diverse variety of elective and emergency surgical cases, extensive internal medicine, advanced diagnostics including nuclear scintigraphy and computed tomography, reproduction, lameness and general wellness. With more than 20 veterinarians on staff we have specialists boarded by ACVIM, ACVS, and ABVP and we receive referral cases from all across California.
