The Regional Director of Operations (RDO) is responsible for providing operational leadership to their assigned hospitals, typically 10-15 locations. The RDO balances the need to support each hospital’s unique culture while fostering an environment of continuous improvement while providing a high standard of care to our patients. The RDO will be responsible to recruit, manage and develop the skills of the Practice Managers within their assigned region.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Ensures successful assimilation of new partner hospitals into the CVP family
Ensures each hospital provides a supportive, positive work environment for the team
Develop and maintain strong business relationships with Practice Managers and Lead Doctors
Work with Hospital Managers and Lead Doctors to improve operational outcomes, including revenue growth and control of inventory, purchasing, labor and other expenses
Work with Hospital Managers and Lead Doctors to develop their leadership skills including developing a culture of engagement, autonomy and accountability
Participate in and direct routine operational conference calls and meetings – at Hospital and Regional levels
Respond quickly and effectively to requests for support / counsel from the hospitals.
Initiate and actively supervise facility improvement projects to provide a professional physical plant that exceeds customer and regulatory expectations
Review hospital performance/results of key financial metrics such as revenue, growth, labor, purchasing, and capital expenditures
Interpret, explain and manage the P&L statements for a hospital providing specific coaching to the Hospital Managers to manage variable expenses
Achieve profitable growth objectives within assigned region
Hold Practice Managers accountable to developing solutions for revenue and cost control challenges and opportunities
Development of fiscal, strategic and clinical processes in partnership with the hospitals.
Effectively communicate and provide performance and operational feedback back to the executive team
Engage and develop relationships with DVM staff to support a high standard of care is being performed
Partner effectively with Regional Medical Director(s) to ensure highest standards of medical quality, client satisfaction, team engagement and financial performance are met
Ensure each hospital provides a high level of customer service to our clients and pets
Marketing and Business Development
Develop, communicate and implement proactive marketing strategies at each hospital for revenue growth
Assist the Business Development team in Identifying opportunities and strategies to acquire additional hospitals
Hire, develop, motivate and hold accountable a team of 8-15 Hospital Managers
Assist the Hospital Managers in organizing their staff around key priorities and goals
Provide performance and coaching feedback to Hospital Managers in a timely manner
Work with hospital leadership to forecast staffing needs and initiate recruitment.
Member of the CVP leadership team, initiates development of our infrastructures, culture, policies & procedures.
Participate in practice management updates and training at all levels.
Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Veterinary or a related field
5 – 10 years of Veterinary Practice/Management experience or similar field (healthcare) within a multi-site model
Knowledge of Veterinary Practice Information System (Cornerstone, Idexx, etc.) is a plus
Ability to adapt quickly, manage change and possess organizational and time management skills
Willingness to travel at least 75% of the time
