Veterinary Medical Director in Hong Kong
Tai Wai Small Animal & Exotic Hospital
A kaleidoscope of life, a sophisticated fusion of East and West! The Hong Kong tourist board describes our wonderful city; ‘A city of diversity where new and old meet at every turn. With a large English speaking population and a convenient transport infrastructure, it’s the perfect city to gradually expand your comfort zones. Often ranked as having the best city skyline in the world, Hong Kong is colorful and superbly chaotic – a dazzling city of futuristic skyscrapers that also offers serene mountains and stunning vistas of open sea and islands’. The weather is sub-tropical which means hot humid summers and cooler dry winters - with no icy days. There is ample opportunity for outdoor recreation both on land and sea. Only 25% of Hong Kong is designated ‘built-up’ and 40% is classified as country park. Due to retirement of one of our partners we have an exciting opportunity for a Veterinary Medical Director to join our busy small animal and exotic hospital in Hong Kong. Our twenty-four hour hospital was established over 20 years ago in a traditional area of Hong Kong close to the mountains and country parks but also only 30 minutes’ drive to the Central Hong Kong business district. We opened a purely exotic branch clinic 3 years ago on Hong Kong Island. Hong Kong is one of the safest cities in the world to live, even with the recent government protests most days there has been very little disruption to normal life and no increased personal risk. The streets of Hong Kong are safer than most streets in the USA! Our hospital is a small animal and exotic pet hospital with a 50% exotic case load. We currently have 10 full time employed veterinarians 4 of which deal purely with the exotic pets. It is our commitment to provide the best health care to all species in our hospital with a focus on educating our clients to provide the best care for their companion as well as providing a rewarding working environment for all our staff. We provide a broad spectrum of diagnostic procedures through in-house testing and the use of external laboratories both in Hong Kong and overseas. Out hospital includes a well-stocked pharmacy, surgery suite, endoscopy (we have 8 different endoscopes!), laparoscopy, radiography, ultrasonography and in house CT. We have separate hospitalization, isolation and ICU areas for all the diverse species we treat. The ideal candidate to join our team would possess a mature and confident attitude, demonstrate excellent leadership and communication skills, work calmly in a fast-paced environment, and maintain a positive relationship with our team. As we are a multicultural clinic they should be enthusiastic about working in a multicultural environment! Responsibilities The Veterinary Medical Director is responsible for providing leadership for the hospital, managing associate veterinarians and support staff as well as being responsible for creating an environment of teamwork in which quality medicine is delivered. In partnership with the Hospital Director, the Veterinary Medical Director is responsible for the financial performance of the hospital, preparing operating and capital budgets, and meeting budget expectations. The position can either involve clinical work or be purely non-clinical depending on the Directors focus and interests. Advancing Medical Care
