The Dumb Friends League’s Solutions Veterinary Hospital in Denver, Colorado is looking for veterinarians to join our team at our new low-cost community animal hospital!  With a supportive Veterinary Services staff and modern equipment, we are committed to providing the highest quality, compassionate, and ethical care to pets in our community. 

As Chief Veterinarian, you will serve as lead medical and surgical staff member of Solutions Veterinary Hospital. You will provide mentorship and support to staff Veterinarians and provide veterinary care for underserved populations in the metro area. The Solutions Veterinary Hospital has five guiding principles: prevent suffering, alleviate suffering, maximize our impact, enhance the dignity of our clients, and to collaborate with the veterinary community. This position works directly with at risk communities to provide affordable, high quality veterinary care within a respectful and compassionate environment. We allow our doctors to provide excellent patient and client care without a focus on owner finances. Our hospital has fixed pricing, and staff are empowered to work with patrons on payment arrangements, so doctors can focus on patients.                              

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and monitor medical programs that facilitate effective outcomes with a strong focus on the animal’s quality of life.
• Collaborate with hospital manager and leadership to ensure the Hospital’s operations are conducted using appropriate and up-to-date medical practices.
• Supervise and mentor staff Veterinarians and Veterinary interns and externs.
• Create training programs for staff Veterinarians and Veterinary interns.
• Maintain a culture of collaboration and teamwork among the Veterinary team. Coach junior veterinarians.
• Serve as a liaison promoting the League’s philosophy and goals to veterinarians, vendors, the public, and other animal welfare related organizations.
• Perform surgical procedures daily including spay/neuter, dentistry, and various soft tissue and limited orthopedic procedures. Procedures performed at Solutions Veterinary Hospital.
• Provide high quality wellness care.
• Perform euthanasia when an acceptable quality of life is unachievable.
• Develop SOPs and ensure they are updated and practiced with staff and volunteers.
• Assist with development of the annual budget.
• Recruit, hire, develop, coach and counsel veterinarians.
• Monitor and evaluate departmental/area processes and procedures to maximize efficient uses of resources.
• Participate in inter-departmental meetings and discussions to support and develop League initiatives.
• Be a positive representative of the League, some public speaking required.
